4-M Reading
In fourth grade the children begin to read novels. During the year we will be reading the following novels:
The Wish Giver by Bill Brittain is the first book we will be reading in class. The story is about three young children who meet a "Wish Giver". They are granted one wish each and the book tells the story of how each wish affect its owner.

Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli is another book we will read this year. A summary of the book can be found on the back cover. It states: "When Jeffrey Lionel Magee wanders into Two Mills, Pennsylvania, a legend is born." The story tells of Jeffrey's adventures through the town of Two Mills. It talks about the good and bad people he met along the way.
Biography of Jerry Spinelli
Call it Courage by Armstrong Sperry is the next book we will be reading in class. The story is about a small boy named Mafatu who was nearly drowned at sea. He has been scared of the ocean ever since his terrible encounter. Soon after he starts to get teased by the other boys in his tribe. They call him a coward because he won't go into the ocean. Finally, Mafatu knows it is time to face his enemy. He sets sail with just his dog Uri at his side. He leaves to prove his courage to his family and friends.
